The five-day Standardbred Horse Sales Company sale concluded on Friday, Nov. 9 with the regally-bred three-year-old pacing filly Come See The Show topping the final mixed sale session at $425,000.
Come See The Show p,2,1:52.3f ($142,602) was purchased by Steve Jones of Mongomery, New York. Owned and bred by Joanne Young and Richard Young, the bay filly is a daughter of world champions and multi-millionaires Somebeachsomewhere and Put On A Show.
Three-year-old pacing colt Nutcracker Sweet p,2,1:50.2 ($396,783) was another top purchase on the day, selling for $300,000. John Cancelliere of Bloomfield, New Jersey purchased the son of Bettors Delight out of the award-winning broodmare Sweet Future. He is a full brother to Bettor Sweet p,4,1:47.2 ($2,816,687) and half-sibling to stallion Sweet Lou p,5,1:47f ($3,484,251).
Three-year-old pacing filly Alexis Faith p,3,1:50.3f ($529,466) was purchased for $215,000 by the New York-based Crawford Farms. The American Ideal-Cannae Cammie filly is a New York Sire Stakes champion and won this year's Lady Maud Pace.
Multiple O'Brien Award winner Lady Shadow p,5,1:48.1s ($2,280,382) garnered a bid of $210,000. The seven-year-old Shadow Play-Lady Camella mare was purchased by Virgil Morgan Jr. of Grove City, Ohio, acting as agent.
Three-year-old pacing filly Butchie Beach p,3,1:49.2 ($30,436) rounded out the five highest priced purchases of the session, also topping the $200,000 mark. The New Jersey-based Fair Winds Farm acquired the lightly raced Somebeachsomewhere-Mcgibson filly, who is a half-sister to Breeders Crown champion Boston Red Rocks p,5,1:48.2f ($1,486,357).
A total of 619 entries (including broodmares and broodmare prospects, weanlings, yearlings, stallion shares, and racehorses) were sold over the two-day mixed sale portion at Harrisburg for nearly $18.26 million. The average price was $29,498, on par with the last two years.
The mixed sale follows the 2018 Harrisburg Yearling Sale, which was comprised of three sessions held earlier in the week from Monday through Wednesday.
The overall sale topper was trotting filly Fifty Cent Piece, Hip 144, purchased for $500,000 by SRF Stables of Solna, Sweden. Bred by Order By Stable and consigned by Concord Stud Farm, the bay filly is sired by Muscle Hill out of the Windsongs Legacy mare Thatsnotmyname, the 2010 Merrie Annabelle champion who is a half-sister to stallions Muscle Massive and Muscle Mass. Fifty Cent Piece is a half-sibling to Basqiat (1:51.2 - $289,748).
A total of 830 yearlings sold over the first three sessions for $35.42 million, for an average purchase price of $42,675. The number represented a 4.9 per cent increase in gross sales from the 2017 yearling sale and a 7.6 per cent increase in the average sale price per horse.
