Twenty-two trotting colts made the Tuesday evening trek to Georgian Downs, as the Innisfil oval played host to a trio of $70,000 OSS Gold Series divisions.
Deweylovernleaver got away next-to-last in his assignment, but he chipped away throughout the mile and came away with a head decision over race favourite Will Take Charge in 1:57.4. Dad Leads set the speed through fractions of :29 and :58.1 before making a break. Will Take Charge did just that at that point, and he had the ball in his court at the three-quarter pole in 1:28.1. Deweylovernleaver, who was still sitting fifth at that point, got into gear and used a :28.4 closing quarter to win over Will Take Charge and Nofear Blue Chip.
Trainer Chris Beaver co-owns the son of Deweycheatumnhowe-Solovesick with Synerco Ventures Inc and Leo Fleming. It was a maiden-breaking score for the colt who now owns a 1-0-1 record from just three trips to the track. The $35,000 payday bumped his earnings to $45,080. He was a $12,000 purchase from last year’s Harrisburg Yearling Sale.
Hall of Famers John Campbell and Bob McIntosh joined forces to win the second division with Tony Soprano, who celebrated a maiden-breaking score in 1:57.3. The son of Kadabra-Windsong Soprano slipped into the four-hole while Im A Mate and race favourite Adored By Masses led the group through fractions of :29.3, :59.1 and 1:28.4. Tony Soprano made a first-over move in the backstretch, and he was knocking on the door going into the final turn. His :28.4 closing kick helped propel him to the win by one-quarter of a length over Adored By Masses. Im A Mate took home the show dough.
Sent off as the 6-5 second choice in the wagering, Tony Soprano won for the partnership of Robert McIntosh Stables Inc, Mardon Stables, Paradox Farm Inc and Dave Boyle. In three tries the freshman has racked up a 1-0-1 record in addition to a cash stash of $47,600.
Unitaliano Bi marched to the front and didn’t look back en route to posting a decisive victory in the final division for trainer/driver Dustin Jones. The colt parked to the quarter pole in :28.3 before securing the top and taking the field through middle panels of :57.3 and 1:27.4. A :30.4 closing quarter was more than enough for him to win by 4-1/4 lengths over Pukka. Mass Balance rounded out the top three finishers in the rich tilt.
Dustin Jones Stables Inc, Noblock Racing Stable and William Jones own the son of Manofmanymissions-Nevis Bi, who failed to hit the board in his first two assignments. The $35,000 payday lifted his lifetime earnings to $41,370. He was a $20,000 purchase from last year’s Lexington Select Yearling Sale.
