A pair of $35,000 Elegantimage eliminations took place Friday night at Mohawk Racetrack with Crys Dream and Beatgoeson Hanover finding the harness racing winner's circle. With a scratch of Fitness Girl, a field of six contested the first elimination.

Eagle Canada (Doug McNair) wasted little time off the gate as she crossed over to take command well before the first turn. Iron Lady (Luc Ouellette) and Cleopatre Duharas (Sylvain Filion) got away second and third, respectively as Eagle Canada posted first quarter speed of :28.1.

The field would remain the same as Eagle Canada led past the mid-way point in :57.3.

Going into the final turn, 1-2 post time favourite, Lukes Sophie (Jody Jamieson) began the first over attack with Beatgoeson Hanover (David Miller) tracking her. Cleopatre Duharas made a costly break in stride as Eagle Canada passed three-quarters in 1:26.2.

At the top of the stretch, Eagle Canada was still in command, but the backfield was closing in. Beatgoeson Hanover was shown clear racetrack by driver David Miller and the daughter of Andover Hall responded, using a :27.4 final quarter to score the victory in 1:54.4.

Eagle Canada remained second over Iron Lady, who used a ground saving trip to finish third.

“She’s got to have a certain kind of trip. The trip worked out great and [Lukes Sophie] took us right into the race,” Miller said following the win. “She felt pretty strong all the way around the last turn when I did tip her three-deep there she took right off. The trip was good for her. It was pretty kind to her. She’ll keep benefiting off those trips.”

Trained by Richard ‘Nifty’ Norman, Beatgoeson Hanover paid $6.80 to win and enjoyed her eighth career victory as her lifetime earnings increased to $221,741 for owner Neven Botica of Perth, Australia.

In the second elimination, Crys Dream and Luc Ouellette scored a comfortable 1:55.1 clocking. The daughter of Tauras Dream now has nine straight victories for trainer Henrik Hollsten and owners Deo Volente Farms, Jerry Silva, T L P Stable and Reve Avec Moi Dreamwithme.

Oh Sweet Baby (Mario Baillargeon) blasted to the lead in the early going, ahead of Seducedbychocolate before the opening panel in :27.2. Crys Dream and Luc Ouellette were still on the outside as Andover The Top made a break around the first turn.

Crys Dream eventually cleared the front before the half-way point in :58.

Around the final turn, Crys Dream was still in command with Seducedbychocolate enjoying the pocket trip. Cedar Dove (Jack Moiseyev) began the first over attack around the final turn, but could not match strides with Crys Dream past three-quarters in 1:27.2.

Down the stretch, Crys Dream was still on a comfortable lead as Cedar Dove began to tire. Crys Dream would score a comfortable three and a quarter length lead with Seducedbychocolate finishing second, over China Pearls (Randy Waples).

When asked if Crys Dream was better this week than in her last start, Ouellette said he didn’t notice any differences.

“She’s the same really, let’s knock on wood for that, but I haven’t had to use her hard, so she was the same this week as last week,” he said. “She’s a dragon that’s not awake yet.”

The Campbellville resident says that driving the filly conservatively is by design.

“It’s going to be a long year for her and expectations are really high. The least we have to use the better it is because we’ll need it later,” said Ouellette. “As you can see tonight with the other division, the good ones are starting to come out. I’m sure the competition will get tougher as we go on.”

Crys Dream paid $2.40 to win as the public’s choice. The bay now boasts career earnings of $669,455.
