Uncle Peter, Little Brown Fox take divisions of Dancer
Memoriall Christina Takter and John Fielding�s Uncle Peter grabbed the
lead when no one else seemed to want to challenge him and he went wire-to-wire
in the $150,500 first division of the Stanley Dancer Memorial for 3-year-old
trotters on Saturday night.
�It was a piece of cake,� driver Ron Pierce said following the win.
The son of Cantab Hall, driven by Ron Pierce and trained by Jimmy Takter, put up fractions of :27.3, :57.4 and 1:25.3 and won by two lengths in 1:53.1 as the 2-5 choice of the fans.
Last year�s Breeders Crown winner, who in his most recent start won a Pennsylvania All-Stars event, has now won seven of 11 career starts and nearly $500,000.
�I saw (Appomattox and driver Tim Tetrick) come at us so I gave him his head and then let him coast home,� Pierce added. �He was very much within himself and I didn�t even have to say �go.��
�I love this horse and am so happy to see this performance,� Takter said. �It was a great race for him and he wasn�t extended.� When asked what would happen between now and the Hambletonian, Takter said he would, �make sure he�s hydrated (in the hot weather) and try to make sure he stays healthy.�
Banker Volo (Jim Morrill, Jr.) finished second and Appomattox finished third.

Saturday�s $153,000 second division of the Stanley Dancer Memorial had a mystery theme: Which Googoo Gaagaa would show up?
Not the good one; the 2-5 favorite made a break early in the mile and was never a factor in Little Brown Fox�s 23-1 upset victory, timed in 1:51.2 -- easily a lifetime best. The winner gave trainer Jimmy Takter a sweep of the Dancer divisions, and a powerful pair to represent his stable in the upcoming Hambletonian.
�He did it all on his own,� winning driver Yannick Gingras said about Little Brown Fox. �I didn�t chase him, I showed him the whip at the top of the lane and he took off.�
Little Brown Fox took the lead at the quarter, timed in :27.3 and then held sway through the remaining fractions, :55.3 and 1:23.3. The winner paid $49.60 and led his stablemate Guccio, driven by Jimmy Takter, and last year�s juvenile colt champion, Possess The Will (Tim Tetrick) to the wire, in that order.
Takter, who was inducted into the Living Hall of Fame on July 1, appears to have a trio of top contenders for the Hambletonian. Adding Little Brown Fox and Guccio to Uncle Peter�s easy win in the first division, the Swedish-born trainer looks like even money to win the trotting classic for the third time in his career.
�Guccio had a lot of trot left, but he took (some) little steps in the first turn, Takter said about the colt he drove, adding -- with some understatement, perhaps � �I like these three after this race.�
The winner (Muscles Yankee--Malvictorian, by Malabar Man) is owned by Brittany Farms and John Fielding and was bred in Maine by Michael D. Andrews and won for the third time in six starts this year.
