Lucky Jim equals all-age world record in Nat Ray

East Rutherford, NJ --- Lucky Jim needed no luck at all as he trotted clear of the field to win the $300,000 Nat Ray for older trotters in 1:50.1, equaling the all-age world record for trotting on a mile track at The Meadowlands on Saturday afternoon. Giant Diablo and Donato Hanover now co-hold the record with him.

Lucky Jim won the $300,000 Nat Ray for older trotters in 1:50.1, equaling the all-age world record for trotting on a mile track.

Lucky Jim was driven by Andy Miller, is trained by his wife, Julie, and owned by David and John Prushnok and William Gregg. The win was his 16th in 17 starts this year, lifting his 2009 bankroll to $763,618.

Lucky Jim took the lead away from Lanson (Michel Lachance), who made the first quarter in :27.4. Lucky Jim was in front just before the :55.2 half and trotted confidently to the 1:23.1 three-quarters, with Glen Kronos (Lutfi Kolgjini) giving chase. When the field straightened out for home, Lucky Jim was more than three lengths from the field and had no challengers to the wire, winning by 4-1/2 lengths. Glen Kronos wound up second, while Gift Kronos (Daniel Dube) finished third. Rounding out the remainder of the finishers were San Pail (John Campbell), Lanson (Michel Lachance) Amour Ami (Jack Moiseyev), In Focus (David Miller) Chick N Tell (Ron Pierce), Arch Madness (Brian Sears), and Four Starzz Speed (Yannick Gingras).

�He�s just awesome,� said Andy Miller. �He was as good as he�s ever been today and he�s been great all year. He went a mile in (1):50.1 pretty handily today. He�s an amazing animal. He�s got the Breeders Crown left. That�s probably it for this year and we�ll shut him down and get him ready for next year.�

Co-owner John Prushnok spoke of his hopes for the current season, more than most would have expected from a horse that was 0-for-9 as a 3-year-old.

�We were hoping to get lucky,� he said. �I don�t see why it can�t (continue). I didn�t think 16 of 17 was possible.�
