Favoured Fillies Sweep Historic Acorn
Two-year-old trotting fillies Chocolate Crisp and undefeated Yoga bookended the Historic Acorn Stakes with a pair of 1:56.3 winning efforts on Wednesday afternoon at Harrah's Philadelphia.
Four divisions with purses ranging from $24,706 to $25,206 were contested with Chocolate Crisp kicking off the action with a two and a half length triumph over Scream And Shout and Champagne Dreams. Tim Tetrick sent the Chocolatier-Yankee Valentine filly from third to first en route to the third quarter station and rallied home in :29.3 to follow up her Aug. 2 Kindergarten score with another. Linda Toscano trains the winner for Enviro Stables Ltd. of South Hampton, New York.
In similar fashion, Yoga advanced from third to first approaching the third quarter station and sprinted a :29.1 final quarter to put five and three-quarter lengths between her and her nearest rival. Ruby and Noon Tea Party rounded out the top three finishers. Trainer Jimmy Takter drove the Muscles Yankee-Sugarcane Yankee miss for his wife Christina and Toronto co-owners John and Jim Fielding. Yoga, also a Kindergarten winner, is now a perfect two-for-two to start her career.
Fresh off a Pennsylvania Sires Stakes victory on Aug. 6, A Perfect Gem (Yankee Glide-Asixpakfromperfect) also doubled up with a 1:57.4 triumph in her division. She romped to a three and three-quarter length victory from post seven with Andy Miller in the sulky. Harley Momma and Keepsake Hanover finished second and third, respectively. Erv Miller trains the filly, who was an $87,000 Lexington Select Yearling Sale purchase and has yet to miss the board in six outings, for Paymaq Racing of Long Grove, Illinois, Louis Willinger of Louisville, Kentucky, and Daniel Plouffe of Bromont, Que.
Tweet Me (Andover Hall-Wishful Me) front-stepped her way to a 1:58.4 victory in the other division with David Miller aboard for conditioner Don Swick and owner Royal Wire Products Inc. of North Royalton, Ohio. Fay finished one and a quarter lengths behind in second while Thisgirlisonfire was third.
