Swandre The Giant Sold

Sold once privately as a two-year-old, sophomore Swandre The Giant changed hands again when going through the virtual auction ring on Saturday, Dec. 21.

Swandre The Giant (3, 1:51.3, $655,368), sold on OnGait for $250,000.

Albert Crawford of Crawford Farms in New York was the winning bidder in the online auction. The sellers were Diamond Creek Farm, J And T Silva Stable and Howard Taylor. Nick Surick of New Jersey will now condition the son of Swan For All.

Swandre The Giant dominated the Indiana Sire Stakes at two and three and faced the best sophomores in North America throughout 2019. His three-year-old campaign was highlighted by a resounding victory over Green Manalishi S in the Dancer Memorial at The Meadowlands.

“He’s definitely a welcome addition to my stable. 'Swandre' will be pointed to the Graduate at The Meadowlands and if all goes according to plan, the Breeders Crown," said Surick. “He should be a major player in 2020.”

Seven-Figure Sale For Trotting Colt

A group of owners have gone all-in on unbeaten two-year-old trotter Swandre The Giant, with a reported price tag in the seven-figure range.

Diamond Creek Farm, Jerry Silva and Howard Taylor have reportedly purchased Swandre The Giant in a transaction brokered by Ernie Martinez, the agent who was instrumental in Taylor Made Stallions' acquisition of pacing dynamo Lazarus N earlier this year.

"He'll be in Takter's barn in Canada [Saturday] morning," Martinez told harnessracing.com. "He is a hell of a horse."

Swandre The Giant was purchased as a yearling for $17,000 by Anthony and Amy MacDonald of TheStable.ca and received his conditioning at the Tomiko Training Centre in Campbellville, Ont. before being acquired by Chicago-area interests in October of 2017. This year, the son of Swan For All has proven a force on the Indiana Sires Stakes circuit this year with a perfect seven-for-seven record under the tutelage of trainer-driver Brandon Bates, taking a mark of 1:54.2 and earning nearly $150,000 in purses for the Panic Stable, Terry Ehardt, Brian Hochman and Richard Barone.

"He always showed an abundance of talent and intelligence," Anthony MacDonald said of Swandre The Giant, whose likely debut for new trainer Jimmy Takter will occur in the William Wellwood Memorial at Woodbine Mohawk Park. The Indiana Sires Stakes Super Final and Breeders Crown, both in October, are likely on the talented two-year-old's radar as well.
