To Dream On was a 1:54.3 winner for driver Yannick Gingras.
To Dream On leads Bluegrass winners in Lexington
The two-week Grand Circuit meet got underway at The Red Mile on Thursday (Sept. 27) with four divisions in the Bluegrass for 2-year-old filly trotters.

The fastest division came in the $89,250 final spilt of the night as Marvin Katz and Al Libfeld's To Dream On was a front-end winner in a time of 1:54.3 for driver Yannick Gingras and trainer Jimmy Takter. The Credit Winner-Satin Pillows miss won for the sixth time in seven lifetime starts, with her earnings climbing to $378,270.

Starting from the outside post position seven, Gingras left alertly and looked for a hole with To Dream On, but when he could not find one he drove on and the pair cleared to the front past the opening quarter in :29.3 and stayed there for the remainder of the mile.

They set subsequent fractions of :57.4, 1:27.3 and 1:54.3. To Dream On was an easy winner over Handover Belle (Mike Lachance) with Mistery Woman (David Miller) third. The overwhelming favorite of the punters, To Dream On paid $2.80 to win.

Frau Blucher and Dave Palone won their division in a time of 1:55.
"She's scary," said Gingras, who was driving To Dream On for the first time as regular driver David Miller was up on Mistery Woman, a filly co-owned by his wife, Misty. "I told Jimmy after the race that I never talked to her in the stretch. She came home in :27 flat and there's no doubt in my mind she could have come :26 flat. She had a couple gears left.

"Jimmy called me (earlier in the week) and told me that David (Miller) had his own filly in there and asked me if I'd drive her. I mean those are the kind of calls you're hoping to get. She's number one in the division; she's the filly to beat. It's a dream come true; it's been a dream year for me and to be able to get associated with a filly like this -- you can't beat that.

"As far as (tonight's) game plan, I was trying to race her off the pace. I was trying to get away third or fourth, just bide my time in there, but they went :29.3 and they were waiting for me to get there; there was just no hole and we were going too slow. I probably would have choked her if I had jammed her in a hole. She wanted to go on and it was never an anxious moment."

The $88,250 opening division went to 1-5 favorite Frau Blucher and Dave Palone in a time of 1:55. The Broadway Hall-My Angel miss brushed to the lead at the half-mile marker and then held off Royal Assets at the wire by one length. Miss Steele finished third.

Owned by Hauser Brothers Racing and Matt Tudisco, Frau Blucher ($2.40) is trained by Chris Oakes and won for the seventh time in 10 lifetime starts, taking her 2012 bankroll to $374,203.

"She's just such a sweetheart," said winning driver Dave Palone. "The main thing was I just wanted to get away nice and quiet and keep her out of trouble. With her pedigree she has a tendancy to get a little hot, but she's a beautiful filly with a beautiful mouth and that's why I think she has a big future.

"She was well within herself. She's like most, she would probably rather chase then do it on the lead. This is the first time she's looked down a long stretch like that and I was very pleased with the way she got home."

The photo finish camera could not separate Upfrontluckycarol (inside) and Aspidistra Hanover in the second division.
In the $88,250 second division, the photo finish camera could not separate Upfrontluckycarol (David Miller) and Aspidistra Hanover (Brian Sears) who reached the wire together in a time of 1:56.2. Morningstar was third.

Upfrontluckycarol (Andover Hall-Batbreaker) is owned by Up Front Racing and Murray Brown and is trained by Kelly O'Donnell while Aspidistra Hanover (Donato Hanover-Angel Fire Hanover) is owned by Kelley Racing Stable, Joe Sbrocco and William Weaver III. Paul Kelley is her conditioner.

Upfrontlucky Carol brushed to the lead at the :57.3 half and continued in front at the 1:29 three-quarter pole with Aspidistra Hanover sitting right on her back. Heading for home it turned into a battle to the wire with Aspidistra Hanover catching the leader at the finish line to earn a share of the winner's purse.

"We raced the whole last quarter and David's (Miller) got a nice filly there," said Aspidistra Hanover's driver Brian Sears. "I was able to nose her out in the PA Sires Stakes final for second and we trotted right to the wire real strong (tonight) and ended up in a dead heat."

John Campbell steered Time To Kill home in a time of 1:55.1.
The win was the second in nine starts for Upfrontluckycarol, who has now earned $171,150. Aspidistra Hanover has posted three wins in seven starts, while banking $165,370.

The $89,250 third division saw Let It Ride Stables and Robert Cooper Stables' Time To Kill squeeze through on the inside in the final strides to score in a time of 1:55.1.

John Campbell was in the bike for trainer Ross Croghan as the 6-5 favorite posted her second win in seven lifetime starts, taking her bankroll to $108,975. The winner is a daughter of Muscles Yankee-Are You Ready.

She brushed to the early lead in an opening quarter of :28.1, then sat in the pocket behind Shared Past through middle fractions of :57.2 and 1:26.4. In the shadow of the wire, Time To Kill found racing room on the inside to post the victory, but the score was not official until she overcame a judges' inquiry for a possible plyon violation.

"It was pretty tight getting through there," said Campbell. "Once she got daylight she was trotting hard and won quite handily once she got through. It was tight going through there and I was just worried about getting room. You're never too sure whether you hit one (plyon) or went inside one; it's happening so quick. I was just hoping we were on the right side of it.

"She has improved. Since that Meadowlands race (the New Jersey Sire Stakes final on August 17) where she was second, she was really strong at Freehold (a 1:59.3 win in the Marion Dancer). I expected her to race well tonight and she was very strong. I think she's on the improve at the right time."
