Wu Long Scores Third Straight Series Win
Wu Long continued her march through the Mary Wohlmuth Memorial Trot at The Meadows, winning her third straight with a powerful first-over explosion and stamping herself as the clear favourite for the final.
Main Gate Tam and Byfleet Hanover took the other $12,000 divisions in Wednesday’s third leg of the series for three- and four-year-old fillies and mares.
The championship legs of the Mary Wohlmuth and three other current series at The Meadows are set for Friday, March 27, first post 6:55 p.m.
Wu Long was fourth down the backside when Dave Palone asked her for trot. She inhaled the leader, Mercer County, and drew off to triumph by 5-1/4 lengths in a career-best 1:58.1. Miss E Claire rallied for place while Mercer County saved show.
Rob Harmon trains the four-year-old daughter of Explosive Matter-Strong Tea, who has won her three series splits by a combined 14-1/4 lengths, for Harmon Racing Stable and Knightstalker Stable.
In the $22,500 Winners Over $10,000 Life/Preferred Handicap Pace, Sweet Talkin Satin pounced on the dueling leaders at the three-quarters and held off newcomer Hillbilly Hanover by 1-3/4 lengths to score in 1:50.3, fastest mile this year at The Meadows. Atta Boy Dan, hung every step from post nine, was a game third.
Eric Ledford piloted the five-year-old Always A Virgin-Silky Satin gelding, who extended his career bankroll to $367,489, for trainer Ron Burke and owners Burke Racing Stable, Weaver Bruscemi LLC, J&T; Silva Stables and Phillip Collura.
Tony Hall, Aaron Merriman, Jim Pantaleano, Dan Rawlings, Ledford and Palone each enjoyed a double on the 14-race card.

Wu Long repeats in Meadows series; Palone wins six
Wu Long made short work of her Mary Wohlmuth Memorial Trot field at The Meadows, gliding through the slop to capture her second straight series victory. Seduce A Stranger and Miss E Claire took the other $12,000 splits in Tuesday’s second leg of the event for 3 & 4-year-old fillies and mares.
Wu Long got away fifth for Dave Palone, but when she quarter-poled to the lead, the race for win was effectively over. Mercer County was second, 2-3/4 lengths back, with Rompaway Gypsy third. Rob Harmon conditions the 4-year-old daughter of Explosive Matter-Strong Tea for Harmon Racing Stable and Knightstalker Stable.
It was one of six wins for Palone on the 14-race card, each for a different trainer: Scot Davidson, Paul Kennedy, Gerald Lee, Jr., Mike Palone, Bill Popp and Harmon.
In the $15,000 Winners Over $10,000 Life Pace, Royal Heart had to battle for the early lead but had enough left to down the closing Sweet Talkin Satin by a head in 1:53 on a surface upgraded to “good.” Mattamerican earned show.
Eric Goodell piloted the 4-year-old Royal Art-BJs Sunrise gelding, who was won four of eight starts this year for Kennedy and owners Denise Dennis and Dolne Farm Services.

Sisters Earn First Wins In Same Series
After Wednesday’s program at The Meadows, it’s hard to say which of the trotters Lou Goans owns and trains, Laurie Lin and Linborghini, he prefers.
In a rarity, the full sisters — daughters of Linbo out of Bacon Hill Bonnie — each won a $12,000 opening-round division of the Mary Wohlmuth Memorial Trot for three and four-year-old fillies and mares. Perhaps most gratifying for Goans — the siblings were a combined 0-33 entering the series.
The three-year-old Laurie Lin got the family off to a good start when she crossed the wire second but was placed the winner when Watch Her Dangle was disqualified for a lapped-on break. Talking Scandal finished third. Laurie Lin scored in 2:03.2 over a sloppy surface for Tony Hall.
Later in the card, the four-year-old Linborghini followed cover nicely, then brushed wide through the lane to triumph in 2:04.3 for Brian Zendt. Miss E Claire was second, three-quarters of a length back, while Icy Sprite earned show.
Andrew Markano bred both Laurie Lin and Linborghini.
Wu Long took the other series split for Dave Palone, one of his four wins on the 14-race card. The series honours the late Mary Wohlmuth, longtime manager of The Meadows’ 2:00 Club.
In the $18,000 Winners Over $10,000 Life/Preferred Handicap Pace, Dew N Doughnuts avoided the breaking leader, snaked between horses late and prevailed for Mike Wilder in 1:54.1, a neck better than Royal Heart. Im Banksy rallied for show. Norm Parker conditions Dew N Doughnuts, a five-year-old son of Real Desire-Artbitration, who soared over $200,000 in career earnings, for Tom Klosky Jr.
