 Creatine suffers injury; retired from racing

The $2 million-winning trotter Creatine, who won last year's Breeders Crown Open Trot and the 2013 Kentucky Futurity, has been retired from racing due to a suspensory injury. Creatine qualified at the Meadowlands on Saturday, April 16, at the Meadowlands, finishing second to Bee A Magician, trotting his own mile in 1:53.4 with a :27 flat last quarter.
Creatine was bred by Diamond Creek Farm and owned by Big C Racing, a partnership of Diamond Creek and Bob and Lynda Stewart. Stewart trained Creatine at ages two and three. Jimmy Takter took over training Creatine last year when the horse was in the midst of a Swedish campaign which resulted in victories in the prestigious Hugo Abergs Memorial, and at the St. Michel track in Finland.
"We got way more than we ever thought we would from Creatine," said Diamond Creek's Adam Bowden. "He was a yearling we couldn't give away because of an injury and then he took us to the point that we were thinking this year was going to be the greatest ever."
Creatine took a mark of 1:51.2 at age four at The Red Mile when he upset world champion Sebastian K in the Allerage Trot. The race came a year after he was a longshot winner of the Kentucky Futurity.
Bowden said Diamond Creek will stand Creatine at stud. The dark bay is a son of Andover Hall out of the Muscles Yankee mare Berry Nice Muscles.
